BB: Orthodox Jewish Women

this afternoon (monday 29th), 4.30-5.00pm, on bbc radio 4

orthodox jewish women (in the beyond belief series) (presented by ernie rea) includes …

“There is a stereotype of the Orthodox Jewish woman. She is confined to domestic duties and bringing up many children whilst being dominated by a husband who wears a large round fur hat (a shtreimel) and has side curls and a bushy beard. This stereotype is based on the Ultra-Orthodox community which has recently been portrayed in the very popular Netflix dramas Unorthodox and Shtisel. The truth is that the Orthodox Jewish community is more diverse than this and that mainstream Orthodox Jewish women are taking on more responsibility in their community.

To discuss the stereotype, their faith and their lives, Ernie Rea is joined by three Orthodox Jewish women.”

TE: Israel and Palestine

BBC bias: No mention of Jewish presence in Palestine for centuries before Zionism (1897), nor of Jerusalem nearly having a Jewish majority.

BBC bias: No mention of the League of Nations mandate – nothing between Balfour and the 1930s.

BBC bias: No mention of the 1920s Arab riots and massacres (including the 1929 Hebron massacre).

BBC bias and lie: No mention of Jewish immigration into Palestine from 1920 to 1929:

“In the 1930s and 40s, Zionists began moving to Palestine.”

BBC bias: Inserting a racist 1949 BBC broadcast between the Holocaust and the 1947 UN Resolution.

BBC bias: No mention of the ethnic cleansing of the West Bank and East Jerusalem in 1948.

BBC bias: No mention of peace with Egypt or Jordan, or of dwindling of Arab countries’ support for Palestinians.

BBC bias: A lie about Napoleon:

“As far back as 1799, Napoleon Bonaparte had offered Palestine as a homeland for the Jewish people.”

BBC bias: Illustrating Palestinian attachment to their land by a story of a Palestinian woman safely visiting her former village to pick fruit without mentioning that no Jew could safely do that in a former Jewish village.

BBC bias: Lying that the PLO was founded to “resist” Israel (it was founded to destroy Israel in 1964) (before the occupation and the resistance).

BBC bias: Lying about the PLO’s name (Palestine Liberation Organisation), in accordance with the BBC’s policy of giving the impression that the Arabs in Palestine have always been called Palestinians:

“The Palestinian Liberation Organisation formed in the 1960s to resist Israel.”
