Both occurred against a backdrop of war that claimed thousands of lives. I will not attempt to draw equivalence between suffering and loss, but I point out that Israelis and Palestinians are two peoples who are linked by the same tragic events. If we want to see the cycle of anger and violence broken, we must acknowledge that link—that shared tragedy.
In that light, we must recognise that the motion tells only half the story …”
