newsnight (presented by evan davis) concludes with …

“We wanted to do something different today, because we’ve got you here Finbarr, to look at a photo of the week, and there was a photo this week that was I think considered very special, it’s from photojournalist Mustafa Hassona, of a 20-year-old, Aed Abu Amro, a Palestinian protester in Gaza. What did you think of that picture?”
When I’ve worked in Gaza, I was very conscious that myself, the foreign photographers, and the Palestinian photographers working there, a lot of times it felt to me like we were not just there to capture an image, but in a sense to maintain one.”

“A ’force for anti-semitism in British politics’ – Frank Field blames Jeremy Corbyn for presiding over a culture of bullying and racism as he quits the Labour whip after 40 years as the Birkenhead MP. Is this the voice of a man who’s long struggled to find his own footing in the Labour Party, or a wake-up call to more MPs who feel the same?”

Newsnight: Corbyn memorial

this evening (tuesday 14th), 10.32-10.47pm, on bbc 2 tv
newsnight (presented by evan davis) leads with …

“Many say it’s time to move on from the topic of the leader of the oppposition laying a wreath at a cemetery in Tunis. But it is hard to do so when there is so much confusion about a quite simple matter, that for many is not a degree of pedantry but is hugely important. Noone disputes Mr Corbyn was in Tunis in 2014 for an event that was timed to commemorate an Israeli bombing of the PLO headquarters there in 1985. That is all straightforward. But did he lay a wreath while there, his answer now is yes, did he lay it in memory of those who were involved in the Munich massacre? No. So that’s his account. But the one problem is that the account appears to have changed. And also a photo suggests a wreath went on the graves of 4 senior Palestinians linked to Black September, the group behind Munich. Are we confused, is he confused, or trying to cover up for long-held views that now seem embarassing?
