BBC Alba: Anti-semitism

yesterday evening (thursday 19th), 8.30-9.00pm (repeated 8.00pm sunday 22nd), on bbc alba tv

anti-semitism (in the eorpa (europe) series) (presented by andrew mackinnon) (in gaelic and german with english subtitles)

Anti-Semitism is on the rise throughout Europe. Many synagogues now require tight security, and many Jewish people are worried about publicly expressing their faith on the street. Germany has seen a rise in anti-Semitic attacks over the last few years – something which is particularly worrying in the year in which the 75th anniversary of the liberation of many concentration camps, Auschwitz amongst them, is being remembered. Over six million Jews were murdered at the hands of Nazi Germany during World War Two. The number of Jewish survivors from these atrocities  is falling every year, but those that are left warn of the dangers which accompany anti-Semitism today.

Andrew MacKinnon is in Berlin to hear from those who have suffered from recent attacks, and to hear about what can be done to curb this rise in prejudice.”
