TIP: Anti-semitism HL 13/9/2018

yesterday evening (thursday 13th), 11.45-11.48pm, on bbc radio 4
today in parliament (presented by susan hulme) includes …

“The former chief rabbi Lord Sacks has said he never expected to see anti-semitism become dangerous in the UK in his lifetime, but that he felt that he could not stay silent. Lord Sacks was speaking in a Lords debate in which the Labour Party and Jeremy Corbyn himself came in for stinging criticism from across the House.”
(Sacks) “Anti-Semitism, or any hate, becomes dangerous when three things happen. First, when it moves from the fringes of politics to a mainstream party and its leadership. Secondly, when the party sees that its popularity with the general public is not harmed thereby. Thirdly, when those who stand up and protest are vilified and abused for doing so. All three factors exist in Britain now. I never thought I would see this in my lifetime. That is why I cannot stay silent. For it is not only Jews who are at risk—so too is our humanity.”
