“Just like the Powell speech, it identified a group of British citizens and said, in effect, they’re not really part of us, they’re an alien element, and that is classic anti-semitism. … The fact is, anti-semitism has returned to mainland Europe, Jews have been murdered in Paris, in Toulouse, in Marseilles, simply for being Jews. When a public figure issues an utterance that has echoes of that anti-semitism, and is in effect opening the door, letting the demons out, then that becomes very very dangerous.
