the bbc devotes about one-third of this programme about walls to the israeli security barrier, of course continually referring to it as a wall, and enabling one guest to say …

Stephen Sackur talks to Nir Barkat, the mayor of Jerusalem, about his ambitious plans to turn his city into a top global city hosting 10 million tourists a year.”

the bbc’s description (above) of this programme – of being about development and tourism – is totally misleading

At a time when the whole world can feel the impact of the tumult in the Middle East, it’s not good for the rest of us either.”

Security barrier and Berlin Wall

yesterday evening (monday 10th), 5.21-5.23pm, on bbc radio 4
pm (presented by eddie mair) includes a series of reports from divided cities around the world, starting with kevin connolly from jerusalem comparing the berlin wall with the israeli security barrier

“If and when it’s finished, it will be 700 kilometres long … the obvious and depressing point is that walls take much longer to bring down than they take to put up.”

… and expressing the hope that the security barrier may come to an end as unforeseeably as the berlin wall did
this report fails to mention that jerusalem was a divided city until 1967, and has been unified ever since
this report gives a bbc black-is-white impression, that the security barrier divides east jerusalem from west jerusalem (it does not) and that there is no freedom of movement from east jerusalem to west jerusalem
