“With about a dozen books, it may well have been the smallest library in the world, but its influence was huge. Incredibly, amd despite the strict surveillance, this secret library flourished inside the Auschwitz concentration camp. One 14-year-old prisoner was entrusted with the task of looking after the books that had been smuggled into the camp. Her name was Dita Kraus. A new book, The Librarian of Auschwitz, tells her extraordinary story.”

The Cut-out Girl was written by an Oxford University professor in collaboration with his subject, Lien de Jong, who was 8 years old when she was hidden from the Nazis by a Christian family in Amsterdam.”
