“At 11 o’clock this morning at Bushey New Cemetery in Hertfordshire, a remarkable and unique ceremony will take place. Six unidentified victims of the Holocaust will be given a Jewish burial. Their remains were sent to this country from Auschwitz in 1997. A box of ash ad bone fragments were included with a consignment of other memorial items intended for the Imperial War Miuseum in London. The museum has had the remains scientifically examined, and we now know that they came from five adults and a child. This week, they were handed over to the United Synagogue, and today they will be placed in shrounds in a coffin with earth from Israel, and buried during a service conducted by the Chief Rabbi.”
