“The disclosure that Richard Burgon described Zionists as ‘the enemies of peace’ has again reopened Labour’s gaping wound over anti-semitism, one made sharper by the fact Mr Burgon is not only the shadow justice secretary but also a close ally and supporter of Jeremy Corbyn.
His comments have provoked a furious response from leading Jewish organisations, including the British Board of Deputies, who said they encapsulated the total sham of Labour’s approach to anti-semitism.
… only last year … Mr Burgon denied making such remarks.. ‘I didn’t say that, and they couldn’t tell me when they believed I had said that, and it’s not my view’.
Tonight, the chairman of the Jewish Labour Movement, Mike Katz, wrote in protest to the party’s chief whip. Nick Brown, and said that Mr Burgon could not play at being lord-chancellor-in-waiting while making dog-whistle attacks on British Jews.”
