Today: Gaza exit permits

BBC bias: BBC presenter Mishal Husain or Martha Kearney twice prevents Israeli deputy ambassador Sharon Bar-Li from giving examples of the Palestinian Authority delaying exit permis for Gazans.

BBC bias: BBC ‘investigative’ reporter Yolande Knell visits East Jerusalem to report on the Palestinian health service, but closes her eyes (or mouth) to findings such as reported in The Independent (2017):

Hospitals in Jordan and Egypt no longer accept patients referred to them by the Palestinian Authority, because they are not reimbursed.

In the past two years, US taxpayers have paid off $60m (£46m) of the Palestinian Authority’s debt to the East Jerusalem hospitals. Earlier this month, the Victoria hospital threatened to stop taking new referrals, including cancer patients, because the Palestinian government owed it $40m.”

this morning (friday 31st), 7.45-7.58am, on bbc radio 4 (partly repeated 2.24-2.28pm on newshour on bbc world service radio)

today (presented by mishal husain and martha kearney) includes …

“Being diagnosed with a serious medical condition such as cancer in Gaza, where many medical treatments are not available, means a series of complex problems beyond your diagnosis. With a financial crisis and a deep rift between Hamas which rules Gaza and Fatah which dominates the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank, many drugs are in short supply. Treatments and travel are also restricted by the tight blockade imposed by Israel and Egypt. Often, a patient’s best hope is to get to one of the Palestinian hospitals in East Jerusalem. The final stage of that process is a permit from the Israel authorities.”
