Anti-semitism: Guest • Daniel Hannan MEP manages to introduce the topic of Israeli house demolitions, including an unchallenged lie** about Israel flattening Palestinian villages, into the subject of reparations for black slavery.
(** Arguably a lie incorporating a Holocaust comparison, with the flattening by the Nazis of the Czech village of Lidice)

“I rather agree with Diane, I think it’s important to look at and learn from things, but it’s also important to remember the basis of modernity, the basis of post-enlightenment civilisation, which is that every individual is responsible for himself, and that we shouldn’t define people through membership of a group, we should all ultimately stand in defence of our own actions.
It’s striking to me that when very often the kind of people who say ‘well you know we need to have reparations’ or ‘we need to have kind of collective identity on these things’ – when the same argument is made in the case of, I don’t know, Israel flattening a Palestinian village as a collective punishment, they are quite rightly the first to say ‘well hang on you don’t do collective guilt, it’s banned by the Geneva conventions’, and they’re right the second time, so we should never lose sight of the fact that everyone is ultimately responsible for himself.”
